Caribbean countries get ready for Hurricane Irma, with PAHO support
Countries in the Caribbean are deploying staff, activating emergency plans, and warning their citizens to prepare for Hurricane Irma, with assistance from the Pan American Health Organization, which has activated its Disaster Task Force and regional response teams throughout the Caribbean.
Tropical Storm Harvey
As August 29, 2017 Tropical Storm Harvey retained its strength through tonight offshore in middle and upper Texas. In Texas there have been 726,000 mandatory evacuations with over a million voluntary evacuations. In Louisiana mandatory evacuations have been declared for 6,000 residents with 133,000 voluntary evacuations. It is estimated that 67,000 homes were affected with 5,500 sustaining major damages across Texas. Power outages remain for 288,000 customers in Texas. More than 1800 FEMA Staff have been deployed, more than one million meals and liters of water, 20,000 tarps and 70 generators have been provided. 14 Urban Search & Rescue Teams with swift water rescue capabilities are supporting operations. In terms of Emergency Communications, 65 mobile emergency response support staff and 10 Mobile communications vehicles were deployed to Texas.
Entregan importante donación para establecimientos de salud en Piura
Piura, 04 de agosto de 2017.-Como parte del proyecto CERF Salud (Respuesta para la emergencia de salud pública causada por las inundaciones relacionadas con el Fenómeno El Niño), la Organización Panamericana de la Salud, donó equipamiento e insumos para contribuir a mejorar la atención de emergencias en diferentes establecimientos de salud de la ciudad de Piura.
