PAHO/WHO works with countries of the Americas to address challenges of advancing nursing education. The goal is to promote the training of nurses with the competence required by health systems and the development of scientific knowledge in according with national research priorities and evidence-based practice.
The document Doctoral Education in Nursing in Latin America and the Caribbean presents an analysis of the situation of doctoral programs in the countries of the Region, accompanied by an action plan whose objective is to promote the training of graduates in nursing with doctoral degree by means of the creation, development and consolidation of postgraduate programs (doctoral level) during the period 2018-2022.
Thus, it is intended to establish the foundation for the training of future professionals with a doctoral degree that meet the needs of the 21st century, competitive, flexible, modern, and responsive to social and
health realities.
