In order to implement an efficient and sustainable quality management system in the public health and clinical laboratories of the region, the need to strengthen the leading role of health authorities is critical. With an integrated approach and through technology transfer, operating procedures standardization, the strengthening of external quality assessment programs, the systematization of internal quality control, the preparation of good practice and ethics guides; and the dissemination of continuing education material, cascade training of quality leaders, inspectors and evaluators, the development of tools for auditing, the consolidation of regulatory aspects of the sector and the registration of in vitro diagnostic devices, the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO), proposes to develop actions that can substantially improve the quality of laboratory services in the Region.
