
Large scale mass gatherings, such as the FIFA World Cup taking place from 12 June to 13 July 2014, have significant implications and offer opportunities for public health.
Mass gatherings bring an opportunity to strengthen multisectoral collaboration, increase capacity in health infrastructure, raise awareness and promote positive health behaviors given the media and public attention focused on such events.
During the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) is implementing enhanced surveillance and activating enhanced information mechanisms in relation to public health events with potential impact at the global and/or regional level.
