Experts from around the Americas met in Venezuela to share experiences, information and tools to improve the health and safety of health workers in the Region. Health care jobs are among the most hazardous, along with jobs in agriculture and construction, because of exposition to a variety of biological, chemical, physical, and psychosocial hazards.
The most prominent members of PAHO's Communities of Practice on Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 will be selected based on the quality of interaction and participation, with special emphasis on informative, innovative, and valuable contributions to the discussion topics in the forums. The quality of interaction within the community will also be a factor in the selection process.
To celebrate Global Handwashing Day, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is inviting schoolchildren from all the countries of the Americas to establish a Guinness World Record for the number of students who wash their hands with soap and water at noon on 15 October 2009.
