Washington, DC, 27 April 2020 (PAHO)— The PAHO Strategic Fund has supported Member States in increasing access to COVID-19 diagnostic kits through pooled procurement, securing over 500,000 RT-PCR tests (noted as the gold standard for diagnosing the disease). Another 1.5 million tests will be delivered over the next month, and an additional 8 million tests will be provided over the subsequent four months – covering at least 12 countries in the region.  [More...]

Washington DC, 7 February 2020 (PAHO)- As part of the joint work between the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the member countries of the Council of Social Security Institutions of Central America and the Dominican Republic (CISSCAD in Spanish), the Organization participated in the III Meeting of Social Security Managers of CISSCAD, in Guatemala City, from 5-7 February 2020.

Washington, DC,17 January 2020 (PAHO/WHO) – The Departments of Health Systems and Services, Evidence and Intelligence for Action in Health, and the Caribbean Sub-Regional Programme and, through the Virtual Campus of Public Health of the Pan American Health Organization’s (VCPH/PAHO), delivered four English-language courses in 2019 on epidemiology and surveillance for public health practitioners in Caribbean countries. The courses were designed to strengthen capacities on the understanding and use of epidemiologic tools and public health surveillance in health systems in the Region.

Washington DC, 10 January 2020 (PAHO)—The Department of Health Systems and Services of the Pan American Health Organization (HSS/PAHO) organized two workshops, in March and October 2019, on Financial Protection in Health to identify and produce key financial protection indicators in the advancement of health systems towards universal health goals.
