Open Forum on Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Description: The Latin American and Caribbean Network for Strengthening of Health Information Systems (RELACSIS) organized a discussion in a forum about the role of electronic medical records (EMR) in the Americas.
The objectives of this forum were to respond to the terms of reference/mandate assigned to RELACSIS during the last network meeting which took place in Mexico in 2013 and to further implement Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO/WHO) “eHealth Strategy and Plan of Action”.
Partners: PAHO Entities, this activity was coordinated with CHA; all PAHO Entities were consulted. External partners, The Latin American and Caribbean Network for Strengthening of Health Information Systems (RELACSIS).
WHO Guidelines on Electronic Health Record
Description: The objective of this project will be develop WHO Guidelines on Electronic Health Records (EHR).
The technical content development of WHO Guidelines on EHR will be in collaboration with numerous individuals, WHO technical units and other UN and inter-governmental organizations. All due processes as outlined in the WHO Handbook-Guideline Development will be adhered to during the production of the document.
Network for the Development of Electronic Health Records in Latin America and the Caribbean
Description: This initiative is a regional public/community welfare Project financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and coordinated by Uruguay, Colombia and Chile.
The Network for the Development of Electronic Health Records in Latin America and the Caribbean was created to address a regional priority: the countries in the region have not consolidated a plan or systematic mechanism to share their experiences and solutions on Electronic Health Records (EHS) with others.

Second Workshop to Share Lessons Learned in the Development and Implementation of Electronic Immunization Registries (EIRs)
Description: Representatives from 17 countries of the Americas, including 21 participants from the sub-national levels of Brazil, Albania, Angola, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Tanzania; the Open Source Medical Informatics initiative (IMeCA) for Latin America; the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Training Programs in Epidemiology and Public Health Interventions Network (TEPHINET) met in Brasilia, Brazil on 18-19 November, 2013 to share practical experiences regarding the development and implementation of electronic immunization registries (EIRS). Colleagues from PAHO, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the GAVI Alliance, UNICEF, and other WHO regions received a web link to follow the workshop online.
