Washington, DC, July 15, 2018 (PAHO/WHO) - The Pan American Health Organization held a workshop to train interprogrammatic teams from 14 countries in the Americas in the use of the Assessment of Essential Conditions tool for maternal health services, and the methodology for developing local intervention plans.

The purpose of the event was to prepare participants in the methodology and use of the tool to identify and analyze barriers to access and the quality of maternal care in health services.

Developed in 2013, the Assessment of Essential Conditions (AEC) for health services tool responds to emerging approaches and practices in the management dynamics of health services. The tool guides the optimal organization and management of services within the framework of health systems based on Primary Health Care and Integrated Health Services Network.

Buenos Aires, July 2018 (PAHO/WHO)- Representatives from the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) met with the Ministry of Health (MoH) from Argentina to advance together in a comprehensive policy on access to medicines, and in the development of criteria for medical technology coverage in the country.

"We discussed some of the strengths of Argentina, such as a strengthened national regulatory authority, a local productive base of medicines, and medicines coverage of many of the health providers. And we discussed how to integrate these elements and improve access for people in an equitable way and ensure affordability", said Analía Porrás, Unit Chief of Medicines and Health Technologies at PAHO.

Washington, DC, 13 March, 2019 (PAHO/WHO) - The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), in collaboration with the EQUATOR Network, launched the Spanish version of the self-learning course to help increase the value of research. The course was initially launched in English, in July 2018, and the Portuguese version is coming soon.

This course is called  "Reporting Guidelines: simple and powerful tools to increase the impact and visibility of research. A virtual course on enhancing the value of research with research reporting standards."  It is designed to reduce waste research by providing current research reporting standards to people who plan to conduct, report, edit, publish or appraise research.
