Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is when a microorganism is no longer susceptible to an antimicrobial agent such as an antibiotic, antiviral or antifungal. In today's growing threat of AMR, it is crucial to continue the global monitoring and evaluation effort for AMR interventions and containment.

This meeting is the result of a joint effort by the Golbal Health Consortium at the Florida International University (GHC/FIU) and PAHO. The purpose of the meeting is to contribute to the process initiated by the WHO and other United Nations agencies, by analyzing, discussing, and proposing an antimicrobial monitoring framework focused on the Caribbean and Latin America.
